Issue in National Geo. study on the History of Humans ..stated human genetic makeup is 99.9 % identical.True?

Curious about just how alike human beings are genetically and what scientists and researchers have discovered with proof to qualify their findings,Issue in National Geo. study on the History of Humans ..stated human genetic makeup is 99.9 % identical.True?
I could see 99%+. I expect that they're doing a bit of statistical extrapolation (can't test everybody) and taking the upper range on their margin-of-error for journalistic sensationalism. So, overall, probably.

Consider: DNA is DNA for every living thing (except perhaps a virus), so variations outside of a certain threshhold result in a different creature -- like aardvarks and komodo dragons. Considering the diversity of life on earth, it should come as little surprise that the threshhold on DNA between one species and another is rather small (at least in comparison to the whole).Issue in National Geo. study on the History of Humans ..stated human genetic makeup is 99.9 % identical.True?
Yeah, we are probably more like 99.99% identical as a species. Admixture of populations (ie chinese mating with spanish), lack of significant environmental pressures and other sources serve to mix up the gene pool so to speak, and limit significant variation. This has been supported by many genetic studies; in fact the Y chromosome is so well conserved that only a handful of mutations have been found (which have been used to track human evolution, and has supported the hypothesis that humans originated in Africa).

Difference between us and Chimps (as far as genomic differences) is something like 1%, very very small really.

This just goes to show how slow evolution really is. As a species we are only 200,000 years old; and the chimp divergence is a few million years (roughly).
we are 1 race, the human race. They use DNA for this stuff. We are all very much alike, just a little differnt color and size sometimes. We all have the same hopes and dreams and needs. Welcome to humanity. And apes are our cousins, also proven by DNA. MIKE
